Synagogues -- New Bedford, Mass.

Collection consists mainly of financial and other record books, all but two of which are written in Hebrew.

Divided into three series, the collection consists of subject files, arranged alphabetically (Series I); records of the Building Fund Committee (Series II); and the publication Tifereth Israelight (Series III). The subject files contain copies of the bylaws and charter. Fundraising for the new building, dedicated in 1966, was spearheaded by General Chairman Alan Ades, who donated the records that make up Series II.

The bulk of the collection consists of historical notes, deeds, member lists, synagogue and sisterhood bulletins and other publications, rabbi biographical and personal files, and photographs, but also includes flyers and newspaper clippings. The majority of files fall within the years 1954 and 2006.

Collection consists of scrapbooks compiled by Ruth Ades and Bertha Cohen, some general files on the establishment of the sisterhood, written histories, newspaper clippings and programs. Many records are stored at Tifereth Israel in Dartmouth, Massachusetts.

The record portion of this collection consists of board meeting minutes 1971-1978, an incomplete set of Temple Sinai newsletters distributed to members, 1966-1972, some correspondence and a few newspaper clippings. The artifact portion of this collection consists of the cloth vestments from the synagogue.
