Biographical / Historical
The Portuguese American Citizenship Project was created as a non-partisan effort to promote citizenship, voter registration and voting in the Portuguese American community. During its span of operations from 1999 to 2016, the Project cooperated with over 52 religious groups, social welfare organizations, fraternal associations, and clubs in five states, California, Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Jersey, and Rhode Island. The Project filed articles of incorporation with the Commonwealth of Virginia, effective January 24, 2003. Directors at that time were Silvia Gonsalves, Al Araujo, Donna Miranda, Jose Morais, and James McGlinchey.
