Biographical / Historical
: Charles Reis Felix was born of Portuguese immigrant parents in 1923 in New Bedford, Massachusetts. He grew up in New Bedford during the lean years of the great depression. Felix’s birth certificate name was “Carlos” but because he was referred as “Charley” when he was a child, later on he changed his name to Charles. He attended the New Bedford High School and graduated in 1941. He studied at the University of Michigan from 1941 to 1943, until he was drafted into the army. After the war, Felix continued his studies at the University of Michigan, where he met and married Barbara, who would later be the mother of his 2 children. They moved to California where Charles finished his undergraduate education, receiving a bachelor’s degree in history from Stanford University. After graduating, he became a teacher for 31 years. Felix was a prominent contributor to Luso- American literature. His works associates autobiography, historical narrative and fictions that relates to human experiences. Felix released four books, Crossing the Sauer released in 2002, Through a Portagee Gate released in 2004, Da Gama, Cary Grant and the Election of 1934 released in 2015 and Tony: A New England Boyhood released in 2008.
