Collection is comprised of medals, awards, photographs, certificates and documents related to Sergeant Antonio C. Casanova’s military career at the Sewart Air Force Base in Tennessee and the Langley Air Force Base in Virginia.

Biographical / Historical
Antonio C. “Tony” Casanova was born in Sobral Pichorro, Portugal in 1921. A decorated World War II veteran, he served in the Army Air Forces, was captured at the Battle of Bataan, survived the Bataan Death march and was a prisoner of war until liberation by the Allied Forces. He then enlisted in the Air Force, serving during the Korean and Vietnam wars. He retired in 1965 as a master sergeant. He worked for 20 years as a special needs industrial arts teacher in Springfield public schools, retiring in 1985. From 1994-1995, he was commander of the Department of Massachusetts of the American Ex-Prisoners of War and also served as commander of its Western Massachusetts chapter.
