Scope and Contents
Records consist of memoranda, correspondence, meeting minutes, brochures and program flyers. The collection was brought together from the records of 3 administrators who served as president of SACHEM at one time or as members of its board - John Brazil, Donald E. Biographical / Historical
The Southeastern Association for Cooperation in Higher Education in Massachusetts, commonly referred to as SACHEM, includes 9 member institutions, 5 of which have shared 2 Department of Education Title VI grants. The five are Bridgewater State College, Cape Cod Community College, Massasoit Community College, the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth and Stonehill College. The remaining four institutions are Massachusetts Maritime Academy, Dean College, Bristol Community College and Wheaton College. Swain School of Design was a member until 1988. The SACHEM Steering Committee is its primary governing body for the consortium and is made up of faculty and administrators from each member institution. SACHEM’s stated purpose is to expand education opportunity, to sustain and improve academic quality, and to achieve economies of operation through cooperation among member institutions. It is engaged in programs and projects of professional development, faculty enrichment, administrative enhancement, common purchasing, pre-college counseling, developmental education, and cross-registration.
