Biographical / Historical
Bernard G. Theroux was born in Fall River in 1933 and attended Saint Anne's School and Prevost High School. He was proprietor of Theroux Accounting and Secretarial Services in Fall River, and served as an ordained deacon in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Providence, Rhode Island. He served and attended St. Anne Parish and Shrine in Fall River for 25 years. He was involved in all things related to the Franco American community of Fall River and New England. He was a charter member and president of the Fall River Chapter of the Richelieu Club, president of the French Cultural Society of Greater Fall River, president of the local council of L'Unon Saint-John Baptiste and served on the Canadian and French Cultural Exchange Commission of Massachusetts. He was instrumental in the purchase and restoration of the Lafayette-Durfee House at 94 Cherry Street in Fall River, and the restoration of the Lafayette Monument in Fall River. He served on the governor's Bicentennial Commission in 1976. In 1968 he was awarded l'Ordre des Palmes Academiques de France for his service to the community and contributionsino furthering French culture. He died in 2019.
