Biographical / Historical

James Pond, III was one of the "Bartlett Boys" who sailed with Captain Bob Bartlett as crewmembers on his Arctic expeditions on the Schooner Effie M. Morrissey (now the Schooner Ernestina-Morrissey). Pond was one of 10 paying college students on the 1940 expedition to Greenland and Baffin Island, with stops in Brigus, Turnavik, Thule, Cape York and the Peary Monument. The trip left New York city on June 20,and returned on September 12, 1940. They captured four walrus pups the Bronx Zoo and one polar bear cub for the Philadelphia Zoo.
