UMass Dartmouth Centennial Celebration records
Biographical / Historical
The centennial was celebrated over two years, because there are a number of dates from which the 100 years can be measured. The predecessor textile schools were chartered in 1895, hence 1995 is the target date for the centennial celebrations. However, the individual schools actually opened in 1899 and 1903. Events associated with the centennial were coordinated by the Centennial General Committee, appointed by the Chancellor. The celebration was coined "UMass Dartmouth Centennial 1895-1995: Knowledge, Excellence, Diversity," and included concerts, exhibitions, plays, lectures, a special fundraising goal, and special alumni reunions.
