Biographical / Historical
The Academic Administrative Council was formed after the resignation of SMU President Joseph L. Driscoll in 1971. Membership consisted of the academic deans, the director of the library, and the presidents of AFT, the faculty union, and of he Faculty Senate. Joseph J. Orze, dean of administration, presided. The Executive committee consisted of Deans Richard Fontera, Celestino Macedo and Mr. Joseph Murphy. They essentially ran the university during this interim period, being the campus liaisons to the Board of Trustees.
