Biographical / Historical
The Save SMU Campaign Committee was formed by President Walker in response to a threat of level funding in the 1983 budget proposal for Southeastern Massachusetts University. The campaign involved a letter wrting campaign to local representatives and the governor, a media campaign, a march by students on the State House on March 25th, 1982, a Torch race to Boston, and distribution of Save SMU bumper stickers. As a result, Governor King increased the funding by $2 million. Members of the committee were Joan Felder, Ray Possick, Peg Panos, Liz Byrne, Ernie Wheeler, Richard Hailer, Kevin Garganta, Tom Higginson, Toby Huff, Tish Dace, Bob Saltzman, Greg Stone, Tony Miraglia, Roberta Aronson, Rita Moniz (Marinho), John Carroll, Larry Miller, Theo Kalikow and Donald Walker.
