Biographical / Historical
The Honors Program started with the first annual Honors Convocation in 1986. The program was spearheaded by Dr. Judith Clark, professor of nursing, in the mid-1980s along with a university academic advising center. There was an earlier Honors Convoction held from 1968 to 1973 in conjunctin with Class Day in the Spring. The Honors Program is designed to challenge students with a diverse educational experience, offering courses taken from the across the different colleges. The Honors curriculum allows students to become exposed to a wide-range of classes distinct from any other program offered, going beyond typical classroom learning.

According to the UMass Dartmouth Honors College web page (accessed February 24, 2022), the Spring 2020 newsletter was never published due to the COVID epidemic and subsequent move to all-online instruction. The newsletter was replaced by the Honors Council Blog (https://honors.sites.umassd.edu/) captured by Conifer on February 24, 2022.
