Scope and Contents
Collection includes correspondences between the office of the president and the office of continuing studies, meeting notices, programs of events, bulletins, newsletters, copies of bylaws and revisions of the bylaws, and documents pertaining to the creation of courses and class schedules. This collection also includes some records pertaining to the creation of Project Excel and The Institute of Health and Long Life, but he bulk of these records are in URC75 and URC 35 respectively. The bulk of the collection consist of course selection catalogs, starting in 1965, which date before a legal charter was put together in 1972, until most recently in 2010.

Biographical / Historical
The Commonwealth of Massachusetts established a program of Continuing Studies and Special Programs at Southeastern Massachusetts University, now University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, in the year 1972. The purpose was to maintain a program of continuing studies which included evening and summer schools, at no cost to the commonwealth. The program must receive funds for said purpose from any public or other private source. The name of the program changed several times over the years. It was known as the Division of Continuing Education, or DCE for the longest period. In the 2000s the name became University Extension.
