Biographical / Historical

American Production and Inventory Control Society (APICS) New Bedford Chapter #1 was formed in 1953 by a group of local manufacturing managers including Isidore Eisner, Edmund Carruth, and Elliott Carruth. In 1956 a national organization of production and inventory control managers was first proposed in Cleveland, Ohio, and APICS was formed. The next year (1957), APICS was chartered as a national organization with New Bedford receiving the designation of Chapter #1. Since that time, APICS has grown into an international organization with more than 70,000 members and 250 chapters worldwide (as of 1996). New Bedford #1 played an important role by contributing one of the first national APICS presidents, Isidore Eisner (1963) as well as being the "birthplace of APICS."
