Conditions Governing Access

Biographical / Historical

For years students have been asked to fill in questions on entrée applications, regarding questions like race and gender. Not many of those students know that their answer to those questions, end up being very important to the people in the admissions office. From each student’s individualized answer, the people in admissions can start to see how the University of Massachusetts is growing year after year. Be it growth in admissions numbers, growth in diversity, or growth in international students, the results monitor the progress of the University regarding its students.

After this information is cultivated, it is then up to the Office of Admissions to create a pamphlet for distribution. Two booklets are created each year, one for the fall and the spring semester. These booklets are then given to all the heads of each college within the university, as well as to some faculty members. Over the years this information has helped the University decide how many programs to add, what kinds of programs to add, as well as how many different events could be organized to promote an engagement between the school and its students.
