Scope and Contents

As records of the treasurer of the organization, the collection includes financial records, meeting notices, programs of events, bulletins, correspondence, copies of bylaws and revisions of bylaws, and some documents pertaining to the creation of SMTI. Bulletins and some earlier alumni association documents (1953-1959) were transferred from the restrospective BDCT records in the Archives and Special Collections.

Biographical / Historical

This collection of BDCT Alumni Association records were assembled by its former treasurer, Fred Lamoureaux (class of 1951). According to the bylaws, its purpose was to advance the interests of the College, to promote mutual acquaintance among the alumni, to maintain and strengthen relations with the College, and to secure systematic gifts to the College and the Association. Membership dues were $5.00 during this period. In 1964 when the BDCT and New Bedford College of Technology ceased to exist and became known as the combined entity SMTI (Southeastern Massachusetts Technical Institute), the alumni associations agreed to merge as well, to become the SMTI Alumni Association.
