Historical Note: Answering the need for a library that could serve the population of the Southeastern Massachusetts University (SMU), the Library Communications Center was constructed, opening its doors on March 13th of 1972. Desmond and Lord, the architectural firm who agreed to take on the project in July 1966, followed closely the plans of Paul Rudolph, the original architect responsible for the unique architecture of the university. (See URC 14 for more information regarding the Library Communications Center.)
