Southeastern Massachusetts University special event programs, recordings and posters
Scope and Contents
The collection consists of audio reels and audiocassette tapes and some printed material, programs, lists, and posters for special events. Events documented include lecture series, conferences, speeches and ceremonies involving special guests, as well as building dedication ceremonies and administrative inaugurations. All events took place on the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth campus between 1966 and 1991. After 1991, when the campus was known as the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, most events were videotaped as opposed to audio recorded, and are in URC 16. Most events were organized by members of the SMU/SMTI community. Copies of programs and announcements for many of these events are included in the boxes with tapes. For recordings of UMD, SMU and SMTI commencements and baccalaureate, see URC 17. For recordings of the Eisteddfod, see MC 2. All items are numbered sequentially as they are added to the collection (tape 1, 2, etc.). Many recordings are on more than one tape. Tapes in a set are lettered (1a,1b,1c, etc.).

Biographical / Historical
The bulk of the collection are recordings made by the Library Communication Center (University Library) of special events on campus. Accompanying material includes programs and posters of events.

Immediate Source of Acquisition
The bulk of the audio reels are retrospective. The bulk of the cassette tapes were transferred from the Audio Visual Department of the University Library in 1996 and 1999, by way of the library’s cataloguing department. Accession numbers 96-5, 96-6, 96-7, 96-8, 99-6.
