UMass Dartmouth architectural plans
Scope and Contents
The collection consists of blueprint copies of architectural plans of present and former University of Massachusetts Dartmouth facilities, including the Dartmouth campus, constructed between 1960 and 1990, the Purchase Street Campus (formerly the New Bedford Textile School) in New Bedford, the Fall River Campus (formerly Bradford Durfee Textile School, now part of the Bristol Community College downtown campus), and CMAST, the Center for Marine Science on the New Bedford waterfront. This collection of plans includes facilities never constructed, including the Child Care Center (currently housed in Phase 3 of the dormitories) and bus shelters designed by Desmond and Lord. The majority of the early plans are of the New Bedford Textile School facilities on Purchase Street, one of two primary sites of the university until 1965. There is also a collection of plans of local streets in New Bedford and Fall River (Series IV). The collection is divided into 4 series, New Bedford campus (New Bedford Textile ), Fall River Campus (Bradford Durfee Textile School), Dartmouth campus (SMTI, SMU and UMD), and local street plans.
