Biographical / Historical
William Curran Wild, Jr. was president of SMU from 1983-1984. He served in this position while the Search & Screen Committee found a replacement for Dr. Donald Ezzell Walker. His first day on the job was September 1, 1983; his inauguration was on October 15, 1983, and his last day as SMU president was August 31, 1984. Dr. Wild’s connection with the university began with Bradford Durfee College of Technology in 1950, when he was appointed Special Lecturer, teaching cost accounting, textile marketing, and textile management. In that same year he was appointed Special Assistant to the President of the college. In 1951 he became director of the Evening Division, and manager of the College Bookstore. In 1955 he became chairman of the Business Administration Department, and in 1974 served as the first Dean of Administration for Southeastern Massachusetts University (SMU, a position he held until 1983. After serving a year as president of Southeastern Massachusetts University, Dr. Wild was then Executive Vice President of the university from 1984-1990. Dr. Wild had a B.S. in English, from Bridgewater State College (1946), an MBA in Business Administration from Northeastern University, and an Ed.D in Business Administration and Adult Education from Northeastern University.

The originally processed collection, consisting of one box (the speeches and inauguration material) is retrospective. Additional subject files that were added in 2019 were reclaimed records from the President's office records erroneously filed in the archives according to subject matter, not record creator.
