Biographical / Historical
Joseph Charles Deck served as Interim Chancellor of UMass Dartmouth between 1992 and 1993, until Peter H. Cressy was hired in 1993. Previously Deck was Dean of College of Arts and Sciences 1987 - 1991, and a Professor of Chemistry (since 1987). He earned degrees from the University of Illinois (M.S. in Chemistry 1964 and Ph.D. in Chemistry 1966) and Duquesne University (B.S. in Chemistry/Biology, 1960). After stepping down as Interim Chancellor, served as Professor of Chemistry and Chairperson for the Department of Chemistry. In 1997 he was named Deputy Director for the Center of Marine Science and Technology, while maintaining his position as Chair of the Chemistry Department. He retired in 2005.
