This is a small collection consisting of 3 photographs, a scrapbook, several New Bedford cotton statistics books, two New Bedford Textile School Catalogues and several pieces of fabric woven at the New Bedford Textile School.

Biographical / Historical

Born on St. Michael in the Azores, Antone Rodil worked in the textile mills in New Bedford as a weaver. He attended the New Bedford Textile School for loom-fixing, and was employed as foreman at different mills in the 1920s and 1930s. From 1934-1937 he was vice president and then president of the Loom-Fixers union. Antone Rodil was hired in 1937 to be New Bedford Textile School’s regular (day) instructor in the weaving department. He had already been a night instructor in weaving for several years. After the New Bedford Institute of Technology, the successor school to the New Bedford Textile School, merged with Southeastern Massachusetts Technological Institute in 1964, he joined the Textile Department at SMTI as an assistant professor. Rodil retired in 1968.

Antone Rodil was interviewed by Francis Woodward on November 10 and 11, 1980 and April 14, 1981 for the Textiles Industry Oral History Project at Southeastern Massachusetts University. The tape and transcript of the interview is located in MC 160.
