Biographical / Historical
Born on St. Michael in the Azores, Antone Rodil worked in the textile mills in New Bedford as a weaver. He attended the New Bedford Textile School for loom-fixing, and was employed as foreman at different mills in the 1920s and 1930s. From 1934-1937 he was vice president and then president of the Loom-Fixers union. Antone Rodil was hired in 1937 to be New Bedford Textile School’s regular (day) instructor in the weaving department. He had already been a night instructor in weaving for several years. After the New Bedford Institute of Technology, the successor school to the New Bedford Textile School, merged with Southeastern Massachusetts Technological Institute in 1964, he joined the Textile Department at SMTI as an assistant professor. Rodil retired in 1968.
