Biographical / Historical

The American Business Women's Association (ABWA) was formed in 1949 by Hilary A. Bufton Jr.. Bufton was a Kansas City businesswoman, and after experiencing the influence of businesswomen in the World War II efforts, she joined forces with three other businesswomen in the Kansas City area and formed the ABWA with an objective to help members progress professionally, educationally, and culturally. In 1985 Susan Whitehead created the New Bedford chapter of the ABWA.
