Its purpose was to help the poor, needy and distressed people of Fall River who applied to the society for help and assistance. Membership was limited to 60 women. Some of the assistance they offered was scholarships, hospital supplies, and camp fees. Popular annual events were the spring fashion show and fall rummage sale. The original names on the articles of organization are Dora Finstein, Rebecca Bloom, Frances Callis, Lily Udis, Ida Sachs, Anna Urlanoff, Sarah Shon, Fanny Callis and Bella Simon.
