Scope and Contents
Collection is a fairly complete record of schoolwork completed by a typical student enrolled in the Cotton Manufacturing course at Bradford Durfee. Includes class notes, exercises, experiments, exams and instruction sheets for the following subjects: Cotton Yarn Preparation, Designing and Analysis, Chemistry, Engineering, Dyeing, Electricity, Steam Engines, and English Grammar. Some of the instruction sheets were bound by course, but many others are loose. Also includes textile machinery product literature collected by Chace, probably while he was a student or soon thereafter. There are a few items from his work at Whitin Machine Works.

Biographical / Historical
Myron Brownell Chace attended the Bradford Durfee Textile School from 1934 to 1937, graduating with a diploma in Cotton Manufacturing. He worked at Whitin Machine Works in Whitinsville, MA during the 1960s, and possibly also Monument Manufacturing Company earlier, in Assonet, Massachusetts after graduating from Bradford Durfee in 1937. Monument Manufacturing was opened in 1934 on Mill Street. The company engaged in textile manufacturing until it closed in 1969. During World War II it was a leading manufacturer of sleeping bags. Whitin was one of the largest textile machinery companies in the world at one time. It was in operation until 1976.
