New Bedford Textile School pattern book, compiled by Thomas Wilson Williamson, class of 1906 (instructor was Samuel Holt)
Scope and Contents
The collection consists of loose notes, bound lecture notes and pattern books compiled by students in a variety of textile design and manufacturing courses. Most were completed in the 1910s and 1920s, but some date to the 1940s and 1950s. The textile design books and pattern books are imprinted with the name of the school. These were standard books, especially designed, and sold blank to students for the purpose of completing assignments.
This collection of student textile sciences work was completed by students of UMass Dartmouth’s 2 predecessor schools, New Bedford Textile School, New Bedford, MA and Bradford Durfee Textile School, Fall River, MA. For an administrative history of each school, see URC 1 and URC 2. There are a few items completed after the schools merged, when it was known as Southeastern Massachusetts Technological Institute (SMTI).
