Samuel Holt (NBTS) “Designing Book”, 1910s-1920s

 Item — Box: 1, Folder: 1
Identifier: URC21.1

Scope and Contents

From the Collection:

The collection consists of loose lecture notes, both handwritten and typescript as well as notes bound together in standard issue textile design books (used by students) and in other bindings. The handwritten notes are presumed to be compiled by faculty for use in textile courses because of the lack of mistakes, and the fact that they are original handwriting. The typescript notes were probably handed out to students, since similar notes appear in books compiled by students (see URC 5). Since Southeastern Massachusetts Technological Institution was primarily a textile school when it was known as Bradford Durfee Textile School (1899-1960) and New Bedford Textile School (1895-1960), nearly all of the collected faculty notes in this collection are in the textile sciences. The exception is one group of notes on microscopy. Many of the books include fabric samples. See also URC 22, textile fabric specimen scrapbooks, that may have been used in teaching.
